Constantin Nitsche / LYS (Works on Paper)
24.09.2021 – 27.09.2021

Loë Zang is pleased to present LYS a solo exhibition of recent drawings and works on paper by Constantin Nitsche.
Nitsches paintings predominantly show figurative compositions often in domestic settings, that are directly based on his personal surroundings. The artist works with a wide color palette and different brushwork techniques. Through combining contrasting colors and precisely executing some parts while leaving other parts seemingly unfinished Nitsche explores the possibilities of painting and its deceptive potential. His current place of residence – Marseille acts as an ubiquitous point of reference in his new works.
Drawings and works on paper, show up as direct models for the artists canvases. LYS reveals studies of different faces in oil, hasty pencil drawings as well as other references for paintings like the paper a store-bought orange is wrapped in. The decorative motif of a lily appears again and again between the various works on paper. An intimate moment is inherent in the drawings exhibited here; they still carry the boldness and spontaneity with which an artist starts.
Nitsche (born 1987 in Ludwigshafen, Germany) studied painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He lives and works in Marseille, France. Selected solo and group exhibitions include Violette, O-Town House, Los Angeles; Everything is Personal, TRAMPS, New York; Salon des Amateurs, TRAMPS, London; Untitled, Parkhaus im Malkastenpark, Düsseldorf.
